Had I not recorded 'Victorian Airships' first, I wouldn't have been able to write this album. Before I wrote 'Victorian Airships', I had been trying to write music for my son (who still had a couple of months before he came into the world). After I wrote 6 or 7, I decided they weren't right and I abandoned most of them (with the exception of 'Appaloosa' which ended up on 'A Lighthouse at the End of the World' and 'Elysium' which went on 'The Promise of the Open Road'). So I took a break from that idea, wrote 'Victorian Airships', and found new inspiration to write songs which were exactly what I wanted for my son. The last track, 'Horizon', is the first song I played for him the day he was born.
