I had recently abandoned my first project, Aeonian Prayer. I had written about 7 albums over 7 years under that name and was feeling bored with the material. I decided to experiment with some new sounds and arrangements, and much of the inspiration and mood came directly from Stephen King's Dark Tower series which I was reading at the time. In the end I released those songs under a new name since the feeling was so different from any songs I had written in the past. And in 2004, in an apartment in Tempe while attending ASU, Velveteen Vaccine was born.
